Bowen Island Honey Brown Lager

It’s a late Sunday evening (8:50 is late when you have a 4 month old) and we just got home from my dad’s 85th birthday party.

Now that the little guy is finally asleep we can crack open a Bowen island honey brown.

The colour is rich and deep, and the head is good, leaving a delightful ring with each sip.

The aroma is subtle and bitter, and just a little sugary.

The taste is really smooth and well balanced. The taste is very subtle and mild, meaning the wife can drink a few as well. The honey taste is a little more apparent than with other honey brews, which is nice, but becomes more noticeable the more you drink.

A trend among honey lagers and honey browns is that they are very smooth and drinkable.

I don’t really rate a beer based on it’s price, but it is noteworthy that this 12 pack was only $17.00 at the signature liquor store… One of the cheapest you can get. So if you are budget conscious, the Bowen island beers are an excellent choice.

They are an excellent choice no matter what.

Bowen Island Irish Cream Ale

This cream ale is different from other cream ales because it is Irish. In other words, you have to be more gentle with it. I dented one of the cans and it called me a cunt and ran away.

And it doesn’t taste like Irish cream.

The aroma is subtly spicy, and a little yucky. There is not much body. Nothing special.

But on the upside, the case came with a free hat!!:)

Bowen Island Brewing Artisan IPA

You have to love these guys. First they give me a trucker’s hat, then the case has a little card in it asking you to email them and let them know how much you like their IPA.

It’s a lot easier to give a good review when you know they care what you think. It’s also easier when they give you free stuff.

I happen to have great hair, so I am not a hat person, but damn, I also look good in their hat.

Anyhoo, despite the bribe, this beer is really good!

The head was moderate and the colour was amber and brilliantly clear.

The aroma was floral and moderately intense. The taste is really beautifully balanced, floral, and just bitter enough to be interesting.

It’s like watching a sunset in the spring, when it’s just a little cold outside: satisfying, but you don’t want to be out there for too long.
