As the winter comes to an end I am sampling one last winter ale from lighthouse brewing.
Come spring I will be announcing our beer awards and this is the first winter ale to even hold a candle to Granville island’s offering.
They are, however completely different styles, with GIB making a vanilla flavored instant classic, and lighthouse making a spicy and strong (alcoholically speaking) but drinkable beer with a citrus nose and sugary finish.
Unlike other winter ales, like the Howe sound winter ale that sits still in my fridge hardly drunk, this one is well balanced with a warming wintery taste.
Too bad I only found it in march.
